UAW/UMass HWTF Bookings

Seated chair massage provided by professional, award-winning masseuses at the Healing ZONE will be available on a reservation basis from noon until 4 pm on August 27th as part of the UAW/UMass Health & Welfare Trust Fund's 21st Annual Benefits Social festivities. Do you have items sitting around that your child may have aged out of? Gift them to our FREE Family Resource Closet (FRC) for grad employees and postdocs in Amherst. We are a 501c9 employee benefits trust (not a 501c3), and we are not a tax deductible charity. We will give your items a new life free of charge to new parents in need.

WE CAN ACCEPT: unused disposable diapers, unused cloth diapers, unopened baby wipes, strollers made after 2015 (when we have sufficient space)diaper bags, postpartum items, gently used clothing and baby bedding, bottle sterilizers and warmers
baby monitors and sound machines. unused bibs and wash cloths, pack -n- plays made after 2013, high chairs made after 2019, baby bathtubs, parenting books/kid's books, children's winter gear & backpacks, toys (no small parts) plush toys (when space allows), unused bottles (but not nipples), feeding supplies like sippy cups, spoons and plates.

WE CANNOT ACCEPT: car seats, nursing gliders, cribs & bassinets, formula & baby food, creams/lotions/etc, opened bottles, toys with small parts or painted wood toys, humidifiers.

We accept donations at the FRC during open hours. Please select a time to bring your items to the FRC.

HOW TO FIND US:

The FRC is located in Thompson Hall Room 10 in the basement of the Thompson Lowrise, which is the short building behind the Thompson Highrise. Here's the Google Maps link to our location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4UivEdZFctyfYmgB8

Once you enter the Lowrise, take the stairs down one level. Follow the signs to the restrooms (the FRC shares a hallway with the restrooms).

On Saturdays, some exterior building doors will be locked. You may have to try a few before you find one open. We have the best luck with the side doors of the Lowrise; the ones closest to the dumpsters. If you message us, we can come to the exterior door and let you in if you find it locked: (413) 768-9011.

If you're parking, you can pay to park in the UMass Parking Garage and exit toward Machmer Hall. Another option is to use one of the two 15 minute parking spots behind the Thompson Lowrise in front of the Outing Club building.

Unfortunately, the Thompson Lowrise is not accessible by elevator. There are two short flights of stairs from the ground level to the lower floor.

At the Family Resource Closet (FRC), we have a diaper bank and gently used baby gear, clothing, and other essentials for grad employee and postdoc parents. Everything is FREE (!), but there IS a monthly limit on diapers and wipes.

The Family Friendly Workspace (FFW) is open in its new location in Hampshire House Room 104. That's the building across the parking lot from Whitmore. Here's the location on Google Maps.

The workspace can be booked for up to two (2) two-hour blocks per day up to three (3) times per week per person. Once booked, you will receive an email with instructions, including the door access code for the workspace. Please do not share the door code to the workspace with anyone.

Booking times start at 8 am and the last booking of the day is 5 pm, Monday-Saturday.

You may book the space for just yourself or for yourself and a study partner (who will need to be identified on the booking by name and email).

A temporary parking permit for a nearby lot is available to those who do not have an existing campus parking permit.

See this map for parking locations. If you requested a temporary parking permit, BE SURE TO PARK IN THE LOT YOU REQUESTED. Don't forget to print and place the permit on your dashboard. Failure to follow these instructions may result in a parking ticket!

The door entry code will be sent to you 24 hours before your booking begins.
